SUMMARY:
The use of projectdata with a group of people will lead to a big mess, if you donīt have a mechanism, which helps you organize informations, 2Ddrawings, 3D-models and any other stuff you need to have your project done. Leading manufacturers of CAD-programs will sell you additional software which will do this for You, but this will be very expensive, and these programs seen to be able to do "everything". In now >20 years experience in engeneering, I know what a designer/engeneer needs for his/her daily work. The DoxnParts system shall assist these people as for example CVS does for programmers.

MY INTENTION TO DO THIS:
I work at a midsized engeneering office, and we tried/try to buy a PLM,CMS for use in our office to use with Catia, Solid Works, Autocad, Unigraphics and other data. As there is nothing out in OpenSource, which will fit our needs, I chose to program it by myself. As I participated so much in OpenSource, I decided to make this work also OpenSource. This will help our office, and helps maybe other small companies which have to buy heavy expensive CAD-Software and donīt leave money for "professional" PLM-CMSsoftware. And there is a lot software for programmers and their needs, but nothing for engeneering needs.

I found a mistake in the general structure and have to redesign several steps.

As I am in an early developmet process, not all listed paragraphs will work today.
But upcoming versions DoxnParts will:

  • use "old" Hardware to run Linux on it (Affordable for small enterprises)
  • support fileservers.
  • use "MySQL", "PostgreSQL", "Oracle" database (NOT Access)
  • prepare project relevant documents for OpenOffice from database content.
    (The user will be able to prepare their templates from inside OO.)
  • Assist "Project-leaders"
  • leads project members with sequential datarequest, will say you cannot break the rules, necessary for smooth project flow.
  • The Project-leader can designate members which work on a project.
  • lock files, which are in use by other members of the group, or if necessary will backup modified files with same name.
  • Will produce Bill of Material according to "VDA 4953" and writes xml-files.
  • Can use VCard 3, to be included in database.
